Just when we thought life couldn't get any sweeter, we were fortunate enough to travel to Todos Santos for some photoshoots, surfing, and exploring! Mexico holds a dear spot in our heart- we traveled here many times with our family when we were kids, and Sayulita was where we were first bitten by the surfing bug. We were drawn to Todos Santos for a number a reason: small, charming, close to world class surfing and located right at the Southern tip of Baja California del Sur. We knew the area would deliver gorgeous desert vistas, cacti and deserted beaches - perfect for photo shoots. We were so enamoured with this little town and the surrounding areas, we put together a list of the best places to visit around Todos Santos for food, drinks, and beaches!

1. Baja Beans

If you're like us and need good quality coffee just to make it through the day, then you'll need to visit Baja Beans. Baja Beans is located in Pescadero, just outside of Todos Santos on the main road. They make a killer up of java, and the owner travels all over Mexico selecting the best beans and buying them directly from the farmers. They are roasted on site, and they serve up unreal homemade scones, muffins, quiches and cookies that are all top secret family recipes. We've been there every morning since we landed.

2. Playa San Pedro Las Palmas

Las Palmas is a beach located between Todos Santos and Cerritos Beach. At kilometre 57 on the main road, there is a dirt road that seemingly comes out of no where, and heads towards the ocean. At the end of the road is a virtual oasis. Surrounded by arid hillsides, cacti and sand, there is a gorgeous palm grove that looks like the lost world. We meandered through the palms, and came upon a stunning deserted beach with wild horses. Not too shabby at all.

3. La Esquina

La Esquina (the corner, in Spanish) is a fabulous little cafe about 1km outside of the heart of Todos Santos. It has a sprawling courtyard, with a great mix of shade, and sunny spots. We sipped fresh watermelon juice and had a cafe con leche. Thankfully in Mexico, restaurants and cafes are totally cool with dogs hanging out inside, so we got our cute dog fix while we were at it.

4. Free Souls Cerritos

Free Souls is a restaurant and bar just off Cerritos beach, which is one of the best surfing spots in the Baja California del Sur. Post surfing, we were hungry, thirsty and tired. Free Souls is a gorgeous, modern building with white washed walls and a rooftop pool that overlooks the beach and the mountains, and looked like the perfect place to recharge after a good session in the waves. We were lucky enough to stumble across this little gem on Thursday night, when they conveniently had free drinks for ladies between 6 and 7. And no, we don't mean cheap jello shooters. We sipped fresh lime margaritas while basking in the pool, and ended up meeting a bunch of professional female surfers from Australia who were visiting for a competition. The staff were friendly, and the food was delicious. We snacked on margherita pizza fresh out of a wood fire oven and watched the sun go down.

5. Hacienda Cerritos Beach

If you've ever been to Cerritos beach, you will surely know Hacienda Cerritos as the stunning Hogwarts-esque castle hotel overlooking the beach. It was a little to rich to stay at for our tastes, but we did poke around and ended up having a beer on their gorgeous pool deck, where you can watch the waves roll in off the Pacific ocean. We definitely recommend this spot for sunset watching, as it faces due west!

The best Ceviche in Todos Santos

6. Mariscos de Mazatlan

No trip to Mexico is complete without a favourite ceviche joint. Ceviche is a scrumptious Mexican dish with fish, lime, chillies, avocado, cucumber and tomato. The fish is raw, and the acid from the lime juice 'cooks' it, and it is served with big crunchy corn tortillas. We pulled into Mariscos de Mazatlan, which is just off the main road in Pescadero (about 5 minutes from Todos Santos) and it was cute, clean and run by a friendly family who eagerly took our order and whipped up lunch in no time at all. The perfect way to wrap up a photo shoot, if you ask us. Especially if you add ice cold home made limonada!
