Avocados are one of the most delicious and versatile ingredients to have in your kitchen. Technically a fruit, these scrumptious and flavorful tropical delights go great in salads, smoothies, sauces, dips and even work in healthy baking recipes. Avocado facts: They are high in healthy fats, have no sugar or cholesterol, and did we mention that they taste good too?
After the ‘fat is bad’ scare that rattled North America in the 90s, avocados were considered a sinful food for those trying to be healthy, until researchers proved what we had probably known all along. Fat doesn’t actually make you fat, it is an unfortunate blooper of the English language. In fact, we need lots of healthy fats to promote brain function, for healthy skin and hair, and to absorb vitamins (many vitamins are fat-soluble, so can ONLY be absorbed when eaten with healthy fats). Avocado nutrition also boast more potassium than bananas, which is super important for recovering from intense exercise. They are loaded with fiber, and monounsaturated fatty acids, which help you feel full and satiated and therefore happy!
Avocado Facts:
So, now that most people are seeing the light, and understand that nuts, avocados and olives are much healthier choices than fat-free-splenda-sweetened yogurt, we can start enjoying these whole foods with reckless abandon!
